Jim Carris Urges Voters to Reject Misleading Tax Hike Advisory Referendum

Calls on Schneider to Curtail Self-Interested Political Travel and Represent the People

Libertyville, IL – Jim Carris, candidate for Illinois’ 10th Congressional District, is calling on Illinois voters to reject the latest attempt to hike taxes. The November ballot includes a question asking whether the Illinois Constitution should be amended to create a 3% tax on incomes over $1,000,000. Carris warns that this measure is a repackaged version of the failed 2020 graduated income tax proposal, which voters soundly rejected.

“This ballot question is a political stunt designed to clear the way for the failed policies voters rejected in 2020,” said Carris. “Voters should reject this question, just like they did in 2020 when 55% of voters in our district voted against it.”

The 2024 advisory question mirrors key elements of the 2020 constitutional amendment that sought to repeal Illinois’ flat income tax. The 2020 measure would have introduced a graduated tax system but was decisively rejected by voters.

“While local families are being targeted by another tax hike, Congressman Schneider is off trying to build his own political power by campaigning in Pennsylvania and Michigan. I urge absentee-Congressman Brad Schneider to oppose this tax hike, start representing the families he is supposed to work for, and stop his political travel aimed at his own political ambitions,” said Carris.

Carris called for real solutions that foster economic growth and job creation, not more tax hikes.

“Illinois doesn’t need another tax hike on families and small businesses—we need economic growth, job creation, and fiscal responsibility,” explained Carris. “I urge voters to stand strong against this misguided policy and vote NO on the 3% tax hike proposal.”
